About PDRDF

WHO ARE WE?
The Peak District Rural Deprivation Forum is a network of people living or working in the area wishing to address problems of overt and hidden deprivation in the Peak District.

PDRDF brings together residents, voluntary groups and the statutory sector to work in partnership to enable Peak District inhabitants to take action for their own communities.

PDRDF welcomes new members. We value the range of knowledge; skills and experience individual members bring and welcome their participation. We offer a variety of opportunities for different levels of involvement. By operating mainly through a system of working groups, the Forum aims to ensure representation from all sectors of the community and to promote informed debate.


WHAT ARE OUR AIMS?

To improve the quality of life for those in the Peak District who are disadvantaged by deprivation.
To address the causes and symptoms of deprivation.

WHAT ARE OUR OBJECTIVES?
To co-ordinate and promote community development projects to develop sustainable communities and challenge rural deprivation.
To co-ordinate and promote economic development projects to develop sustainable communities and challenge rural deprivation.

To undertake research to influence policy on, and seek solutions to, rural deprivation.
To facilitate community members to take part in local policy decisions and in formulating practical solutions.
To undertake and promote rural networking to support sustainable communities and economic development in the Peak District.

WHAT DO WE DO?
1) Work for the recognition that rural deprivation still exists in the Peak District.
2) Lobby Government and public bodies to address the problems of rural deprivation.
3) Bring together diverse people and communities by finding common ground that leads to long term change.
4) Take initiatives that foster the creativity of people and communities in tackling the problems they face.
5) Carry out research on the needs of rural areas and publish these.
6) Bring identified needs to the attention of policy makers and the wider community.

HOW DO WE DO IT?
Addressing the causes and symptoms of deprivation, the forum works in and with the community on issues including:
Housing,
Low Income,
Education and Training,
Health and Healthy Living,
Transport,
Local Economy, Jobs and Farming
Waste & Recycling,
Environment and Sustainability.

We do this through working groups, reports, conferences, workshops and obtaining funding.

In addition, the Forum has become involved in setting up and promoting services of direct benefit to communities e.g. social and community enterprise, the Healthy Living Network and accessible transport.

Membership of the forum is open to all who share these aims.

HOW DO WE WORK?
A large number of external bodies are represented at the Forum either on the Management Committee or on the working groups. The Forum is also represented on these external bodies by officers and board Members.

There is small core of permanent staff and a large network of volunteers in working groups.
