Aims and Objectives

AIMS

To improve the quality of life for those who are disadvantaged in the Peak District by addressing the causes and symptoms of hidden deprivation.

OBJECTIVES

Recognition
i) To work for the recognition by Agencies, communities, and individuals, that deprivation exists in the Peak District and the acceptance by them of the responsibility for its alleviation.
ii) To promote a Rural Citizens Charter.
iii) To publicise the problems of people suffering hidden deprivation in the Peak District through presentations, public debate, and media publicity, but in particular the production of a series of reports.
iv) To promote research and to gather and collate statistics on deprivation in the Peak District.

Action for Change
v) To lobby for changes in policy and practice that assist in the identification and alleviation of deprivation in the Peak District.
vi) To promote appropriate indicators for measuring rural deprivation.
vii) To encourage greater consultation with members of the community by those who have the power to act.
viii) To encourage the co-ordination of local services.
ix) To gain a commitment by agencies which operate in the area to change their practices from ones that contribute to the problems of deprivation, to ones which are effective but culturally sensitive.
x) To promote informed debate and provide information and training for those who have a role in combating deprivation, in order to create a new climate of opinion.
xi) To encourage active collaboration amongst the various providing bodies, and to promote clear mechanisms in agency practice, in order to achieve the most effective and efficient use of resources to tackle rural deprivation.

Empowerment
xii) To assist the empowerment of local people, in order to enable them to influence those people and organisations who control resources.
xiii) To encourage Parish Councils to lobby and to take action for change on behalf of their communities.
xiv) To encourage the provision of adequate and accessible information about local services for local residents.
