There
must be recognition that significant deprivation exists
in the Peak District and that present efforts are inadequate.
Service
providers must change practices to more effectively
identify and target deprivation.
Resources
must be better prioritised to meet Peak District needs.
Work
that recognises deprivation issues has been done,
however, the new agenda should continue to develop
and refine indicators.
The
Peak District is a jigsaw of district council, county
council, health authority and other local and national
agency boundaries focussed mainly on surrounding towns.
Local service decision making must be decentralised
and co-ordinated. Lack of knowledge about "who
does what" and "where to go to get" reduces
people's power to act on their own behalf.
Parish
councils can be much more active; in the future they
could have more power and resources to address local
needs.
Agencies
need to actively seek out those in need to give them
power to act on their own behalf.
Many
local problems can be related to national and international
factors. There is a need to identify the wider causes
of local deprivation.
